            BUILD A COMMUNITY
If you are interested in applying for a Low Power FM frequency, please know there are many people ready to help you and it will be extremely valulable to make some connections right away.

FIND AN ENGINEER
Once you have a nonprofit organization, the first step in building your LPFM station is FINDING AN ENGINEER who can survey your community, look for available frequencies.  Applicants in rural communities shoud have good luck finding space on the dial.  Those in urban areas may have more difficulty finding room for a new station.  However, it is definitely worth a shot as opportunities arise and a good Engineer may find creative solutions.  Most engineers will conduct a preliminary availablity study - to find out if there is a frequency in your area - at no cost.  See below for a list of LPFM-friendly broadcast engineers.

DISCOVER YOUR ALLIES
There is a strong network of community-based radio stations that want to teach you everything they know!  You can connect with them online through the LPFM SOLIDARITY facebook page and in-person through the annual GRASSROOTS RADIO CONFERNCE.

The 2023 GRC will be hosted by WTSQ-LP this OCTOBER 19-22 in Charleston, West Virginia.  In light of the upcoming window, it will offer an LPFM INTENSTIVE for helping nonprofits apply for FCC licenses and prepare for taking flight!  Registration is NOW OPEN!  Scholarships are avilable! Hope to see you there!

MEET THE ADVOCATES
As you begin your journey, connecting with nonprofit advocacy groups like COMMON FREQUENCY, INTERNATIONAL MEDIA ACTION, and the PROMETHEUS RADIO PROJECT will be imperative. They can provide engineering services and application assistance.  They will give you an idea of what to expect during the station building process and lend a hand during the tower-raising process.
